It was mounted to a wooden post, and its original screws remain with it.

Childhood summers there grew into years of holidays, memorable weekends and gatherings with family and friends. After seasons of sun, snow, rain and salty air beside Oyster River, the sign now hangs inside our home, keeping those memories close.

It is one of the pieces that helped shape MAWKO Supply Co.’s affection for objects with a history close to home. We love its worn paint and timeworn character, and the people and memories it brings to mind. It remains in our private collection, cared for with the hope of passing both the piece and its story on.

SIZE & DETAILS

Overall width: 23.5 inches
Overall height: 7 inches
Depth: 0.75 inches
Era: Early 1990s, based on family history
Location: Barn Hill Village, Cape Cod, Massachusetts
Material: Painted wood
Lettering: Hand-painted white lettering on a dark ground
Inscription: “Uncle Abner’s Path / Barn Hill Village”
Reverse: Painted, without lettering
Maker: Painted by The Chatham Sign Shop.
Hardware: Original screws retained from mounting to a wooden post
Availability: Private collection.
