STORY

A first edition of Peter Beard’s Fifty Years of Portraits, published in 1999 and curated by Peter T. Tunney.

Portraits, photographs and journal pages bring together the people and encounters that shaped Beard’s work.

This copy bears a large blue handprint and a handwritten Christmas and New Year greeting, signed “Peter (Beard).” A gift from a family member, it holds a special place in our private collection. Bound in brown textured boards with a portrait mounted on the front, it is shared here for its personal significance and is not for sale.

Two paper items picked up separately at the gallery are photographed alongside the book: a Carnets Africains exhibition invitation and a Fifty Years of Portraits exhibition leaflet.

CONDITION

Pre-owned excellent condition with light cover and handling wear.

Light rubbing and edge wear to the boards, with minor marks and signs of handling. Blue pigment has transferred onto the facing red endpaper from the decorated opening page. The handprint and inscription remain clearly visible. The accompanying leaflet shows folds and light marks; the invitation has an irregular left edge with paper loss. Please review the detailed photographs for condition.
