STORY

Bruce Davidson’s Brooklyn Gang documents the lives of the Jokers, a teenage gang he photographed in Brooklyn in 1959. The black-and-white images move between public streets and personal moments, offering a close view of the group and its daily life.

Originally published by Twin Palms in 1998, this copy is the 1999 second printing, limited to 2,000 copies, as stated in its colophon. Designed by Jack Woody, the book was printed and bound by Nissha Printing Company in Kyoto, Japan. The photographs are reproduced using the sheet-fed gravure method on Japanese paper, giving the images rich tonal depth.

Bound in black cloth with yellow-stamped lettering, this copy retains its illustrated dust jacket. The book includes a text by Davidson and an interview by Emily Haas with Bengie, one of the people photographed.

CONDITION

Excellent vintage condition with the illustrated dust jacket retained.
