STORY
Hand-painted by the Chatham Sign Shop, this sign stood on a post at the bend in Jericho Lane, directing people toward the shore section of Barn Hill Village. It was part of the Cape Cod neighborhood where our family spent childhood summers and returned for holidays, celebrations and weekends with cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Years outdoors beside Oyster River gradually faded its yellow and turquoise lettering and exposed the wood beneath. Sun, snow, rain and salty air left each side with a different surface, one still clearly readable and the other much more worn.
It now hangs in our home, a familiar reminder of the place and people we grew up with. Alongside the other neighborhood signs we kept, it helped shape MAWKO Supply Co.’s appreciation for family history, timeworn character and objects worth caring for and passing on.
